What's Happening?
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a total of $381 million for three significant projects in Punjab, focusing on agriculture, education, and health services. This funding includes a $7 million grant from ADB’s Asian Development Fund and a $100
million loan from its ordinary concessional capital resources. The projects aim to modernize secondary education by enhancing inclusive STEM education, mechanize agriculture, and improve health services. The Punjab School Education Department will implement the education project, which seeks to improve access to quality education. The agriculture project will introduce a new financing model for farm mechanization, benefiting small-scale farmers and boosting the skills of 15,000 women. Additionally, a $150 million concessional loan will support the Punjab Nursing and Health Workforce Reform Programme, focusing on modernizing nursing education and expanding the pool of qualified nurses.
