What's Happening?
Damen Shipyards Group has launched the NRP D. João II, a Multi-Purpose Vessel (MPV) for the Portuguese Navy, at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania. The vessel, designed for a variety of naval operations, was developed in collaboration with the Portuguese Navy and
funded by the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility. The MPV is equipped for oceanographic research, environmental control, and maritime surveillance. It honors Portugal's maritime heritage, named after a king who supported the Age of Discovery. Sea trials are scheduled for later this year.
