The U.S. Space Force has activated the 1st Electromagnetic Warfare Squadron, a new unit that uniquely combines two distinct weapon systems: Meadowlands and Bounty Hunter. This squadron, primarily staffed by former Air National Guardsmen, was activated on August
3 at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado, under Mission Delta 3. The Meadowlands system, developed by L3Harris Technologies, is a mobile, ground-based space electronic warfare system designed to detect, identify, deny, disrupt, and degrade adversary satellite communications and radars. It was operationally accepted in June as a critical upgrade to the Counter Communications System, offering enhanced mobility and a smaller footprint. The Bounty Hunter system, operational since the early 2010s and deployed in U.S. Pacific Command and U.S. Central Command, functions as a defensive electronic warfare system. It detects, characterizes, geolocates, and reports electromagnetic interference and signal jamming targeting U.S. and allied satellite communications. The squadron's personnel will be distributed across five locations, integrating these capabilities to enhance space superiority.
