countries, including Canada, between 2018 and 2024. The minimally invasive procedure involves a smaller incision on the side of the chest, as opposed to the traditional method that requires opening the chest through the breastbone. The study found that patients who underwent the less invasive surgery required fewer blood transfusions and spent less time on a breathing machine. However, pain levels and hospital stay durations were similar for both groups. Dr. Marc Ruel, a cardiac surgeon at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, led the research, highlighting the potential benefits of the less invasive approach.
