What's Happening?
The RSM US Foundation, a tax-exempt public charity established by RSM US LLP, is actively empowering youth through community-based programming focused on education, hunger, housing, and health. Since 2019,
the Foundation has maintained a national relationship with Junior Achievement USA, contributing over $3.65 million to expand volunteerism, financial support, and access to high-quality learning experiences. A key component of this collaboration is RSM's support for the JA Take Stock in Your Future curriculum and the JA Stock Market Challenge. These programs introduce high school students to foundational investing concepts, the workings of the stock market, and how current events influence market performance, providing hands-on experience in a simulated marketplace.
Why It's Important?
This initiative is important for the U.S. as it directly addresses critical gaps in financial literacy and career readiness among young people. By partnering with Junior Achievement USA, the RSM US Foundation is helping to equip the next generation with essential skills for navigating the complexities of the modern economy. The focus on practical, hands-on learning through programs like the JA Stock Market Challenge can foster a deeper understanding of economic principles and investment strategies, which are vital for future financial stability and informed decision-making. Furthermore, the involvement of RSM professionals as volunteers and board members extends the impact of these programs, providing mentorship and real-world perspectives that can inspire students to pursue careers in business and technology, thereby strengthening the future workforce.
What's Next?
The RSM US Foundation plans to continue its support for Junior Achievement USA, expanding its reach and impact on youth across the U.S. and Canada. Beyond national program support, RSM professionals will continue to fund local JA initiatives, volunteer with students, and serve on JA chapter boards. The Foundation also offers a University Scholarship program, providing one-time campus-based awards to business and technology students, with over 600 students supported since 2019. These ongoing efforts aim to build tomorrow's middle market leaders by fostering confidence in financial literacy, career readiness, and entrepreneurship, ensuring a continuous pipeline of skilled individuals for various industries.
Beyond the Headlines
The RSM US Foundation's commitment to youth empowerment through education and financial literacy highlights a growing recognition within the corporate sector of the importance of social responsibility and community investment. This initiative goes beyond traditional philanthropy by actively engaging employees in volunteerism and mentorship, creating a more direct and personal impact. Such programs can help bridge the socio-economic divide by providing access to educational resources and opportunities that might otherwise be unavailable to many students. In the long term, fostering financial acumen and entrepreneurial spirit in youth can contribute to a more robust and innovative economy, reducing financial instability and promoting broader societal well-being. It also serves as a model for how corporations can leverage their resources and expertise to address societal challenges.
