Fay Doris Kershner, a beloved educator and community member, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 in Chicago, Illinois, on October 17, 2025. Born in Fremont, Michigan, Kershner was the youngest of five siblings. She pursued a Bachelor of Science in Education
from Western Michigan University, graduating in 1954. Her teaching career began in Rockford, Michigan, where she taught sixth grade. In 1957, she relocated to Chicago and dedicated over 25 years to teaching kindergarten through second grade in the Chicago Public Schools. Kershner was a resident of Chicago's West Ridge neighborhood for 50 years and was known for her kindness and generosity. She is survived by her son, Ronald Kershner, granddaughter, Jennifer Stewart, and sister, Mary Ellen Mickel. A memorial service is scheduled for November 8 at The Carrington in Lincolnwood, Illinois.
