the first Black-owned company to be listed on the American Stock Exchange in 1971. Johnson's innovative marketing strategies, including sponsoring the television show 'Soul Train,' helped the company reach a wide audience. His product lines, such as Ultra Sheen and Afro Sheen, played a significant role in the Black community, especially during the 1970s when natural hairstyles gained popularity. Johnson's legacy extends beyond business; he was also a philanthropist who donated millions to support minority students' education.
