What's Happening?
A self-defense workshop for seniors, hosted by Kristi Hofstetter Batiste, was held at the Hunt Library, attracting over 25 participants. The 'Seniors Fight Back' program aims to enhance personal safety by teaching situational awareness and defensive techniques. Participants learned how to counter attackers and practiced maneuvers like pushing aggressors away. The workshop concluded with attendees receiving self-defense tools, such as pepper spray and personal alarms, reinforcing the program's commitment to senior safety.
Why It's Important?
The workshop addresses the growing need for personal safety among seniors, empowering them with practical strategies to protect themselves. By fostering situational awareness and teaching defensive techniques, the program helps seniors build confidence and reduce vulnerability. This initiative is crucial in promoting independence and safety for older adults, who may feel hesitant to engage in self-defense due to various concerns. The program also fosters a sense of community, encouraging participants to share experiences and support each other.
