Detect-ION, a Tampa-based health-tech startup, has announced a collaborative project with the Mayo Clinic to develop a non-invasive breath test for detecting Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a major cause of pneumonia.
This project, funded by the Mayo Clinic Advanced Innovation Research program, aims to create a diagnostic tool that can identify lower respiratory tract pathogens and distinguish between colonization and invasive states. The initiative leverages Detect-ION's CLARION platform, which uses a miniaturized gas chromatograph and mass spectrometer to deliver lab-grade analysis in under five minutes.
