What's Happening?
Germany has received its 53rd and final Airbus Defence and Space A400M airlifter, marking the completion of a delivery process that began in 2014. The aircraft, designated 54+63, was handed over to the Luftwaffe on April 18, 2026. The A400M fleet was procured
to replace the retired Transall C-160s and is used for logistical transport and tactical missions in contested environments. The Luftwaffe has equipped these aircraft with advanced systems such as the Elbit Systems J-MUSIC for infrared countermeasures and a terrain-masking low-level flight system. Additionally, the fleet is capable of aerial refueling and may serve future roles such as supporting unmanned aerial vehicles and acting as a standoff jammer for NATO missions.
