What's Happening?
American Rheinmetall and General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) have each delivered their initial XM30 mechanised infantry combat vehicle (MICV) prototypes to the U.S. Army. This delivery marks a significant step in the multi-billion-dollar program aimed
at replacing the Army’s M2 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle. The prototypes are now undergoing government-led developmental and performance testing under a Phase 3/4 detailed design and prototyping framework. This phase, valued at approximately $1.53 billion, is split equally between the two companies and includes digital engineering, physical prototyping, and comprehensive system validation. American Rheinmetall's Lynx XM30 prototype will undergo military safety inspections before active field maneuvers and large-scale combat simulations, with seven additional prototypes expected later this year. GDLS also confirmed the submission of its Wolf XM30 prototype, an evolution of its Griffin III, delivered on August 21.

American Rheinmetall plans to deliver seven more prototypes later this year to support parallel operational unit training. The next stage of the program involves the procurement of 19 prototype vehicles, with a budget request of $547 million. Final decisions on prime contractors and the full-scale production of the XM30 will be based on the outcomes of these rigorous testing phases, ensuring the Army selects the most capable and reliable replacement for the M2 Bradley.
