What's Happening?
EllaLink and MTNIMA have successfully landed a new subsea cable branch in Nouadhibou, Mauritania. This development provides Mauritania with a direct, low-latency connection to European cloud, AI, and data services. The cable enhances national digital
security and supports strategic sectors such as e-government, education, and health. The project is part of a broader effort to diversify Mauritania's international access points and ensure the stability of its digital services. The new cable positions Nouadhibou as a strategic node on the Atlantic digital map, reducing the risk of service outages and opening opportunities for regional extensions.
Why It's Important?
The new subsea cable is a significant step in strengthening Mauritania's digital infrastructure. By providing a reliable and secure connection to Europe, the cable supports the country's digital transformation and economic development. It enhances Mauritania's capacity to participate in the global telecommunications network, attracting potential investors and innovators. The project also underscores the importance of international cooperation in building resilient digital infrastructures, as it is co-funded by the Mauritanian State and the European Union.
