GenesisHOPE, a nonprofit in Detroit, is developing the Common Ground Community Land Trust to provide affordable housing. This model allows the community to own land collectively, ensuring permanent affordability.
The initiative, inspired by research on gentrification, plans to acquire 10 lots from the Detroit Land Bank for single-family homes. The trust will use restricted ground leases to maintain affordability, with a seven-member advisory board overseeing community engagement and governance.
