Researchers at Northwell Health’s Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research have released the first comprehensive anatomical map of the human vagus nerve. This groundbreaking dataset, collected from 30 human donors, provides a detailed 3D view of the nerve's
complex structure. The vagus nerve, a critical component of the autonomic nervous system, plays a vital role in regulating heart rate, digestion, and immune response. The map is expected to advance the field of bioelectronic medicine by enabling more precise neuromodulation therapies. The project was supported by a $6.7 million NIH grant and philanthropic contributions.
