What's Happening?
Cornerstone University has introduced a new program allowing students to earn bachelor's and master's degrees through their mobile phones. This initiative, known as the SOAR program, is designed to cater to students who prefer a self-paced learning environment.
Currently, about 250 students are enrolled in the program, which offers degrees in business management and leadership, as well as a master's degree in organizational leadership. Gerson Moreno-Riaño, President of Cornerstone University, emphasized the institution's commitment to balancing affordability and convenience in higher education, addressing the challenges of overpriced education by providing flexible learning options.
Why It's Important?
This development is significant as it reflects a growing trend in higher education towards more accessible and flexible learning options. By allowing students to complete degrees via mobile devices, Cornerstone University is addressing the needs of non-traditional students who may have work or family commitments that prevent them from attending traditional classes. This approach could potentially democratize access to higher education, making it more inclusive and adaptable to individual needs. It also highlights the increasing role of technology in education, which could lead to broader changes in how educational institutions operate and deliver content.
