The Natural Land Institute is hosting a Dark Sky Bonfire and S’mores open house to celebrate the addition of 80 acres to the Pecatonica Ridge Preserve in Illinois. Scheduled for January 21, 2026, the event
invites guests to enjoy a bonfire, hot cocoa, and s’mores while experiencing the preserve's natural beauty. Attendees can explore the new and original sections of the preserve, which now total 160 acres, featuring wetland and wet grassland habitats. The event encourages visitors to bring flashlights, snowshoes, or skis, and telescopes for stargazing. Registration is requested by January 20.
