What's Happening?
NASA has selected 37 American companies to develop technologies essential for establishing a Moon Base. This initiative, part of the 2025 Announcement of Collaboration Opportunity (ACO), provides these companies access to NASA's resources to accelerate
the development of necessary technologies. The selected companies will work on solutions to challenges such as power generation during the lunar night and wireless power transfer. Notably, Zeno Power Systems is developing a nuclear battery using americium-241, while Lockheed Martin is working on a wireless power transfer system using fiber lasers. These technologies aim to address the harsh conditions of the Moon's south pole, where sunlight is scarce.

The collaboration is crucial for the success of NASA's Moon Base program, which aims to establish a permanent human presence on the Moon by 2036. The technologies being developed will enable sustainable operations in the Moon's challenging environment, particularly in permanently shadowed regions. This initiative not only advances lunar exploration but also strengthens the U.S. space industry by fostering innovation and collaboration. The selected companies will work with NASA over the next 12 to 24 months to develop and test their technologies.
