What's Happening?
The Columbus Blue Jackets, in collaboration with OhioHealth, are set to host their annual Hockey Fights Cancer Night on November 13 at Nationwide Arena. This event is part of the team's ongoing efforts to support pediatric cancer patients and their families.
The night will feature various activities aimed at raising awareness and funds for cancer-related causes. Attendees will receive a Hockey Fights Cancer fleece blanket, and are encouraged to wear lavender, the color representing all types of cancer. The event will also honor the 2025 Class of Pediatric Cancer Heroes, recognizing the courage of young cancer patients and their families. Over 1,000 guests from local cancer support organizations will attend the game free of charge.
Why It's Important?
The Hockey Fights Cancer Night is a significant event for the Columbus Blue Jackets, reflecting their long-standing commitment to supporting pediatric cancer initiatives. Since its inception in 2000, the Blue Jackets Foundation has focused on providing therapeutic experiences and palliative care support for children facing cancer. This event not only raises funds but also brings the community together to support a vital cause. The initiative is part of a broader effort by the NHL and NHLPA, which has raised over $36 million for cancer research and support since 1998. The funds raised during these events contribute to life-saving research and support local cancer-related organizations, making a tangible impact on the lives of those affected by cancer.
What's Next?
Fans can participate in several fundraising activities during the event, including a 50/50 raffle, a jersey raffle, and an online auction of exclusive items. Proceeds from these activities will benefit pediatric cancer initiatives. The Blue Jackets will continue their season with a game against the Calgary Flames on November 5, with live coverage available on various platforms. The ongoing support from fans and the community is crucial for the success of these initiatives, and the team encourages continued participation in their fundraising efforts.
