What's Happening?
The Pentagon has initiated a competition called Suitable Warfighting Adaptive Payloads (SWAP-USV) to develop autonomous drone boats capable of launching and recovering drones at sea. The Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) is offering up to $100 million in prize
money, with an additional $200 million set aside for procurement. The competition aims to address the cost-effectiveness of drone defense by developing a system that can autonomously launch, recover, and operate drones for surveillance and potential strikes. The deadline for submissions is August 10, with the requirement that the technology must already exist and be ready for testing within 29 days.
