The Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has released a draft of its new Power Sector Net-Zero Standard, inviting businesses to provide input. This standard aims to assist companies across the power sector in setting ambitious and credible emissions reduction targets. The power sector is responsible for nearly 40% of global energy-related emissions annually, making this initiative crucial for mitigating climate change. The draft standard outlines requirements for businesses to set net-zero targets for 2050 or sooner, covering Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions. The consultation period for the draft standard and its target-setting tool will run until November 3, 2025.
