What's Happening?
Severson Dells Nature Center, located at the Severson Dells Forest Preserve, is set to change its name to Wild Roots Nature Center. This rebranding, effective July 1, 2026, aims to better reflect the organization's
growth and its mission to inspire conservation through education and stewardship. The current nature center will be known as Wild Roots Nature Center at Severson Dells, while a new site at the former Elliot Golf Course will be called Wild Roots Nature Center at Prairie’s Edge. The name 'Wild Roots' was chosen to symbolize the active, hands-on learning opportunities in nature and the organization's commitment to stability and community engagement. Despite the name change, the center will continue its science-based activities for children, adults, and families.
Why It's Important?
The rebranding of Severson Dells Nature Center to Wild Roots Nature Center signifies a strategic move to align the organization's identity with its mission and vision. This change is important as it reflects the center's commitment to fostering a community that values exploration, understanding, and protection of the natural world. By maintaining its educational and stewardship activities, the center continues to play a crucial role in promoting environmental awareness and conservation. The rebranding could enhance community engagement and support, potentially attracting more visitors and participants to its programs, thereby strengthening its impact on local conservation efforts.
What's Next?
The transition to the new name will be completed by July 1, 2026, allowing the community time to adjust. The organization will continue to focus on its mission of conservation education and stewardship. The new site at the former Elliot Golf Course will expand the center's reach and capabilities, offering additional opportunities for community involvement and environmental education. The organization may also explore new partnerships and funding opportunities to support its expanded operations and initiatives.
