What's Happening?
Spherion Staffing and Recruiting Mid Ohio has announced the opening of applications for the 2026 Sandy Mazur Excellence in Leadership Scholarship. This scholarship offers up to $5,000 to students who are pursuing higher education and demonstrate leadership,
academic achievement, and a commitment to community service. The scholarship is open to high school seniors, current college students, and individuals returning to school across Ohio. Established in honor of former Spherion President Sandy Mazur, the scholarship aims to recognize students who embody her legacy of leadership and community impact. Now in its seventh year, the program has awarded scholarships to 17 students nationwide, with the 2025 class being the largest to date, distributing $25,000 to five recipients.
Why It's Important?
The scholarship program is significant as it provides financial support to students who are committed to leadership and community service, potentially easing the financial burden of higher education. By focusing on leadership and community involvement, the scholarship encourages students to contribute positively to their communities, fostering a new generation of leaders. This initiative not only supports individual educational pursuits but also strengthens community ties and promotes civic engagement. The partnership with the Richland County Foundation further underscores the importance of community collaboration in supporting educational opportunities.
What's Next?
Applications for the scholarship are open until April 30, and interested candidates must plan to enroll in a trade school, two-year, or four-year college or university, maintaining a minimum 2.5 GPA. Applicants are required to submit a Student Aid Report from the FAFSA and demonstrate their community involvement and future plans to 'pay it forward.' The selection process involves a review by a committee that evaluates candidates based on merit, leadership, and community involvement. The scholarship is administered in partnership with the Richland County Foundation, ensuring a fair and transparent selection process.
