Europe is making significant strides in the industrialization of marine energy, particularly tidal power. The continent has deployed more tidal capacity than all other countries combined and boasts the largest pipeline of projects under development. This
progress is largely attributed to supportive policies such as the UK's Contracts for Difference (CfD) system, which has fostered the development of 10 pre-commercial farms in four years and attracted European investment. France has also fast-tracked two farm projects, FloWatt and Normandie Hydrolienne, through a similar scheme and has committed to auctioning 250MW of tidal capacity by 2030 as part of its national energy strategy.
