What's Happening?
Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) has been recognized with the Initiative of the Year award at the global Regenerative Travel Impact Awards 2025 for its campaigns focused on the Great Barrier Reef.
The Guardian of the Reef campaign and The Lifetime of Greatness Project were highlighted for their innovative approach to promoting the ecological, cultural, and economic value of the Reef. These initiatives aimed to redefine meaningful action in tourism by integrating conservation efforts with travel experiences. The campaigns involved collaboration with scientists, First Nations ambassadors, and industry leaders, generating significant support and reframing the Reef as a living entity deserving of global environmental recognition.
Why It's Important?
The recognition of TTNQ's campaigns underscores the growing importance of regenerative tourism, which seeks to create lasting positive impacts on ecosystems and communities. By promoting responsible travel, TTNQ demonstrates how tourism can be a powerful tool for conservation, driving economic benefits while preserving natural heritage. The campaigns have not only raised awareness about the challenges facing the Great Barrier Reef but also highlighted the role of tourism in its restoration. This approach aligns with broader sustainability goals, emphasizing the need for industries to adopt practices that contribute to environmental resilience and regeneration.
