The CARICOM Secretariat has conducted a series of webinars aimed at enhancing hurricane preparedness within the agriculture sector. These webinars, part of the 'Food for Lunch' series, were held in May and focused on minimizing the impact of hurricanes
on crops, livestock, and fisheries. The sessions also covered disaster response and recovery strategies. Dr. Wendell Samuel, CARICOM Assistant Secretary-General, and Dr. Renata Clarke from the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, emphasized the importance of preparedness and collaboration in mitigating the devastating effects of natural disasters on the region. The webinars were designed to equip stakeholders with best practices and anticipatory actions to protect agricultural assets during the 2026 hurricane season, which began on June 1.
