What's Happening?
Henkel, a global leader in adhesive technologies and consumer brands, marked its 150th anniversary by hosting a STEM education program at its UK headquarters in Hemel Hempstead. The event, part of Henkel's Forscherwelt initiative, involved over 50 students
in hands-on science activities such as testing bond strength and creating glue sticks. Forscherwelt, or Researchers’ World, aims to inspire young people in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through practical experiments. Since its UK launch in 2025, the program has reached over 2,000 students across 36 workshops. Henkel UK and Ireland president Sutinder Bhandal emphasized the company's commitment to innovation and education, highlighting the program's role in fostering the next generation of scientists and engineers.
Why It's Important?
The initiative underscores the importance of STEM education in preparing future generations for careers in science and technology. By engaging students in practical, hands-on learning, Henkel is helping to build confidence and curiosity in these fields. This approach not only benefits the students but also addresses the broader need for skilled professionals in STEM industries, which are crucial for economic growth and innovation. Henkel's program also reflects a growing trend among corporations to invest in educational initiatives as part of their corporate social responsibility efforts, potentially influencing other companies to follow suit.
What's Next?
Henkel plans to continue expanding its Forscherwelt program, making STEM education more accessible to diverse groups, including home-educated students. The company aims to inspire more young people to pursue careers in science and technology, thereby contributing to a skilled workforce that can drive future innovations. As the program grows, it may also lead to partnerships with educational institutions and other organizations, further enhancing its reach and impact.
