What's Happening?
Enginuity has introduced a new funding initiative called Enspiring Futures, aimed at creating practical training spaces for young people who are currently excluded from mainstream education and training. The program offers up to £80,000 to organizations
to establish or enhance facilities for welding and fabrication training. This initiative is designed to address skills shortages in the UK engineering and manufacturing sectors by providing young people with the necessary skills and qualifications to enter these fields. The program targets alternative provision learners aged 14 to 16 and NEET (not in education, employment, or training) learners aged 16 to 24. Enginuity is inviting proposals from various regions in England, including the North West, Yorkshire & the Humber, and the East Midlands, among others.
Why It's Important?
The Enspiring Futures program is significant as it aims to tackle the persistent skills gap in the UK engineering and manufacturing sectors. By providing practical training opportunities to young people who are often overlooked by traditional educational pathways, the program seeks to build a more diverse and skilled workforce. This initiative not only helps young individuals gain valuable skills and qualifications but also strengthens the talent pipeline for industries facing acute skills shortages. By focusing on regions with high demand for skilled workers, the program supports local economies and enhances the resilience of the engineering and manufacturing sectors.
What's Next?
Organizations interested in participating in the Enspiring Futures program must adhere to specific timelines, including an expression of interest opening on January 12, 2026, and a full RFP submission deadline on February 23, 2026. Enginuity encourages early submission of pre-qualification questionnaires to maximize the chances of a successful proposal. The program's success will depend on the engagement of various stakeholders, including educational institutions, training providers, and industry partners, to create effective training environments and pathways for young people.
Beyond the Headlines
The Enspiring Futures initiative highlights the broader challenge of integrating young people into technical careers, especially those from non-traditional educational backgrounds. By focusing on practical skills and accredited learning, the program addresses both immediate workforce needs and long-term economic sustainability. It also underscores the importance of collaboration between educational institutions, industry, and policymakers to create inclusive opportunities that can drive innovation and growth in the engineering and manufacturing sectors.
