What's Happening?
Indonesia has successfully secured its national fertiliser supply despite global supply chain disruptions caused by tensions in the Middle East. The country's fertiliser production has reached 14.5 million tonnes, sufficient to meet domestic demand. The government
has diversified import sources for components like phosphate and potassium to ensure continuity of supply. This effort aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's policy to safeguard the agricultural sector's resilience. The government is also monitoring supply and demand to maintain balance and support rising planting activity among farmers.
Why It's Important?
The ability to secure fertiliser supply is crucial for Indonesia's agricultural sector, which is a significant part of the country's economy. By ensuring a stable supply, Indonesia can maintain agricultural productivity and food security, even amid global disruptions. The government's proactive measures to diversify import sources and monitor supply chains demonstrate a commitment to economic stability and resilience. This approach not only supports domestic agriculture but also positions Indonesia as a potential exporter of fertiliser to other countries facing shortages.
