Huntington Beach is set to host two subsea fiber-optic cable landing stations as part of a project to deliver high-speed internet to Catalina Island and improve infrastructure for coastal Orange County residents. The California Public Utility Commission
has allocated $37 million for this initiative, which is part of a larger $96 million federal grant aimed at high-speed broadband projects. AVX Networks will construct the necessary infrastructure, which is expected to benefit 4,400 residents of Catalina Island and a million tourists annually.
