What's Happening?
Keith Johnson, the winningest manager in Salt Lake Bees history, will not return next season as he has been appointed as the third-base coach for the Los Angeles Angels. Johnson, who managed the Bees to 954
wins, will join the Angels under new manager Kurt Suzuki. Johnson previously served as an infield coach for the Angels in 2018 and played six games for the team in 2000. The Angels have also hired Andy Schatzley as the infield coach and Max Stassi as the catching coach, alongside other new appointments including Mike Maddux as pitching coach and John Gibbons as bench coach.
Why It's Important?
Johnson's departure marks a significant change for the Salt Lake Bees, who will need to find a new manager capable of filling his shoes. His move to the Angels highlights the ongoing trend of minor league managers transitioning to major league roles, reflecting the importance of minor league experience in developing coaching talent. The Angels' new coaching lineup, including Johnson, aims to bring fresh strategies and leadership to the team, potentially impacting their performance in the upcoming season.
What's Next?
The Salt Lake Bees will begin their 2026 season on March 27 at Las Vegas, and the search for a new manager will be crucial in maintaining the team's competitive edge. The Angels, with their revamped coaching staff, will focus on integrating these new members into their system to enhance team dynamics and performance.
