Derek Harrison, a lifelong learner and compassionate traveler, passed away at the age of 83 on October 28, 2025, in Tryon, NC. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Harrison was raised in Richmond Beach, WA, and later
moved to Rochester, NY. He is survived by his partner, Rebecca Kraai, three children, five granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter. Harrison was known for his deep commitment to humanitarian service, having visited 65 countries and devoted himself to aiding the sick, homeless, incarcerated, and impoverished in various locations, including Haiti, Munich, Calcutta, Nicaragua, Colombia, and across the United States. His experiences and the people he met were chronicled in his book 'Turning Times: Stories of People Who Serve'. The family plans to honor his life in a private gathering, and donations in his name can be made to Spiritus Christi or Sunset House of Rochester.
