What's Happening?
A new short film, created by Revital Belalli Zimmering and published by Hidabroot, features Chani and Chezki Lifshitz, directors of the Chabad House in Kathmandu, as they share the story of their 24-year-old daughter Cheli, who is on the autism spectrum.
The film marks the first public appearance of Cheli, who has given her full consent. It candidly portrays the challenges of raising a child with special needs in Nepal, a country with limited infrastructure and services for special needs children. Despite these challenges, the Lifshitz family has remained committed to their mission and Cheli's development, transforming hardship into a source of inspiration. The film highlights the family's efforts to provide Cheli with necessary therapies and education, including enrolling her in an American diplomatic school and hiring private aides.
Why It's Important?
The film sheds light on the unique challenges faced by families raising children with special needs in underdeveloped regions. It underscores the resilience and determination required to overcome such obstacles, offering a message of hope and inspiration. The Lifshitz family's story is significant as it highlights the importance of community support and the impact of dedicated efforts in the development of children with special needs. This narrative can inspire other families in similar situations and raise awareness about the need for better infrastructure and services for special needs children globally.
