The Maryland Department of Labor has opened applications for two grant programs aimed at bolstering the state's healthcare workforce. The Direct Care Workforce Innovation Program and the Career Pathways for Healthcare Workers Program are designed to support
the recruitment, retention, and career advancement of healthcare workers in Maryland. These initiatives will invest $750,000 in the state's current and future frontline healthcare workers. Organizations applying for these grants must allocate funds to provide financial support to participants, such as assistance with transportation or childcare, to help remove employment barriers. Applications are due by April 3, with awards expected to begin on June 1. The programs include training for roles such as nursing assistants, home health aides, and direct support professionals. Additionally, applicants for the Career Pathways program must partner with a Maryland community college or historically Black college or university and offer pay increases to employees who complete the training.
