The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has introduced a new financing facility aimed at developing critical minerals supply chains in Asia and the Pacific. This initiative, known as the Critical Minerals-to-Manufacturing Financing Partnership Facility, was
announced during ADB's 59th Annual Meeting in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The facility is designed to support the development of supply chains essential for clean energy and advanced technologies. It aims to move the region beyond being merely a source of raw materials by enhancing economic value through job creation, technology, and manufacturing. The facility will support industries beyond mining, including processing, manufacturing, and recycling, and will assist governments in preparing projects, implementing policy reforms, and attracting investments. The facility will operate through a grant window and a catalytic finance window, with initial funding commitments from Japan and the United Kingdom.
