What's Happening?
The Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) has launched the Jewish Mayors and Municipal Leaders Association (JMMLA) to unite Jewish elected municipal leaders across the United States. The association aims to strengthen cities and ensure safer communities
by addressing antisemitism and other issues important to the Jewish community. The inaugural event was hosted by Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner, who emphasized the responsibility of mayors to confront antisemitism and defend democratic values. The JMMLA will facilitate peer exchange, shared resources, and coordinated action on local leadership, public safety, and extremism prevention.
Why It's Important?
The formation of the JMMLA is significant as it provides a platform for Jewish municipal leaders to collectively address antisemitism, a growing concern in many communities. By uniting these leaders, the association aims to amplify their voices and influence in combating hate and promoting democratic values. This initiative also highlights the historical role of Jewish Americans in civic life and their continued commitment to justice and community safety. The association's efforts could lead to more effective policies and actions against antisemitism, benefiting not only Jewish communities but society as a whole.
