What's Happening?
Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has been selected by St Augustine Gold & Copper Ltd to conduct a Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) for the Kingking Copper-Gold Project. Located in the Municipality of Pantukan, Davao de Oro
Province, on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines, Kingking is one of the world's largest undeveloped copper-gold deposits, with reserves of 960 million tonnes. The project is valued at approximately $2.37 billion. Stantec's role will involve delivering integrated, sustainable solutions from pit to port, including comprehensive data review, risk assessment, strategic work planning, stakeholder engagement, and definitive-level engineering. The company will also handle capital and operating cost estimation, financial modeling, and NI 43-101 reporting. This project is seen as a significant step in supporting the global shift towards low-carbon technologies and evolving energy infrastructure.
Why It's Important?
The Kingking Copper-Gold Project represents a major development in the mining sector, particularly in the context of global efforts to transition to low-carbon technologies. As a significant source of copper and gold, the project could play a crucial role in meeting the increasing demand for these metals, which are essential for renewable energy technologies and infrastructure. The involvement of Stantec, known for its expertise in sustainable project delivery, underscores the project's commitment to responsible resource management. Successful completion of the DFS and subsequent development of the Kingking project could enhance the Philippines' position in the global mining industry and contribute to economic growth in the region.
