What's Happening?
Educators are exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to support social-emotional learning (SEL) in schools. At the ISTELive 26 + ASCD annual conference, educators discussed how AI chatbots can help students practice empathy, perspective-taking,
and relationship skills in a low-pressure environment. Some educators have developed AI chatbots that simulate interactions with diverse characters, allowing students to engage in meaningful conversations and develop critical soft skills. However, there are concerns about AI's potential to undermine genuine human interactions and critical thinking.
