What's Happening?
Heifer International Ethiopia has launched a new financing model aimed at modernizing smallholder agriculture in Ethiopia. In partnership with agritech firm Hello Tractor and the Ministry of Agriculture, the initiative introduces a Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) tractor financing scheme. This model allows rural farmers to access tractors through flexible repayment plans, using income generated from tractor services. The program is part of the Africa Tractorization Strategy – Ethiopia Project and will initially be implemented in five regional states. The initiative seeks to overcome the challenge of limited access to affordable mechanization, which has historically hindered productivity among Ethiopian farmers.
