What's Happening?
The Haryana government has approved a significant Rs 424.69 crore package for transport and infrastructure projects across the state. This approval, granted by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini during meetings of the High Powered Purchase Committee (HPPC)
and the High Powered Works Purchase Committee (HPWPC) in Chandigarh, encompasses nine proposals. A major component of this package is the procurement of 500 new fully built, non-air-conditioned diesel buses conforming to Bharat Stage-VI (BS-VI) emission standards for Haryana Roadways. Additionally, the government has approved the purchase of 24 diesel-engine trucks and Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) to support operational requirements. In Gurugram, three specific traffic infrastructure projects have been sanctioned, including the construction of flyovers at key intersections and an underpass near the Millennium City Centre Metro Station. These projects aim to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance connectivity in the rapidly developing urban center.
Why It's Important?
This substantial investment by the Haryana government is crucial for improving public transportation and urban mobility within the state. The addition of 500 new BS-VI compliant buses will significantly boost the operational capacity of Haryana Roadways, providing better and more accessible public bus services for citizens. The procurement of supporting vehicles and Diesel Exhaust Fluid ensures the long-term sustainability and efficiency of these transport operations. For Gurugram, a city experiencing rapid urban and commercial growth, the approved traffic infrastructure projects are particularly vital. These flyovers and underpasses are designed to address severe traffic congestion at busy junctions, improve road connectivity, and facilitate smoother movement for commuters and commercial traffic. This will not only enhance the daily lives of residents but also support continued economic development by improving logistical efficiency and access to important urban locations.
What's Next?
Following the approval, the Haryana government will proceed with the procurement of the 500 BS-VI buses, 24 diesel-engine trucks, and Diesel Exhaust Fluid. The implementation of the three traffic infrastructure projects in Gurugram, including the construction of flyovers and an underpass, will also commence. These projects are expected to be executed to address current traffic challenges and improve urban connectivity. The government also achieved approximately Rs 11.96 crore in savings through negotiations with bidders, indicating a focus on managing expenditure efficiently while moving forward with these critical transport and infrastructure developments. The successful completion of these initiatives will likely lead to a noticeable improvement in public transport services and traffic flow in Gurugram and across Haryana.
