The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has reversed its previous decision to allow the permanent closure of the Indianapolis Downtown Heliport (8A4), directing that the facility remain available for public use. This reversal follows an extensive grassroots

The Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA) had sought approval to close the heliport and release it from federal obligations. The FAA initially intended to approve the closure in November 2024, with a planned closure date of December 15, 2025. However, after requests for reconsideration, the FAA reopened the public comment period, receiving 737 comments, 93% of which supported keeping the heliport open.
