What's Happening?
Fincantieri has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Albanian state-owned infrastructure company KAYO and the 'Pavarësia' Vocational Institute in Vlorë to develop a skilled workforce for the modernization of the Pashaliman shipyard. This initiative
aims to create a pipeline of skilled workers to support the redevelopment of the shipyard, where Fincantieri Albania will oversee modernization efforts. The workforce development program will include classroom instruction, practical training, and internships for students in various engineering and technology disciplines. Fincantieri will contribute its expertise by developing curricula, training instructors, and transferring industrial know-how.
Why It's Important?
This agreement marks a significant step in establishing a long-term shipbuilding presence in Albania, supporting the country's emerging naval industrial base. By investing in workforce development, Fincantieri is helping to create the conditions for sustainable industrial growth while strengthening maritime security and defense capabilities in the Mediterranean region. The initiative also supports the broader industrial partnership between Fincantieri and KAYO to transform the Pashaliman shipyard into a regional center for defense vessel construction and maintenance. This development could enhance Albania's naval capabilities and contribute to regional security.
What's Next?
The workforce development program will begin with the establishment of training programs focused on shipbuilding and naval construction. Fincantieri will continue to collaborate with KAYO and the 'Pavarësia' Vocational Institute to implement the program, which is expected to produce a skilled workforce capable of supporting the shipyard's modernization efforts. The initiative will also support Fincantieri's strategic relationship with Albania and expand its industrial footprint in the Adriatic region.
