What's Happening?
Etihad Airways has resumed its operations at Ben Gurion Airport in Israel, offering flights to the United States with short connections via Abu Dhabi. The airline is providing services to major U.S. cities
such as New York, Chicago, and Washington, with prices starting around $1,000. The flights include a U.S. Preclearance service, allowing passengers to complete border control procedures before boarding. Initially, Etihad will operate two daily flights, expanding to four daily flights starting May 2 using its new Airbus A321LR aircraft. Alongside U.S. destinations, Etihad is also offering flights to Asian cities like Bangkok, Shanghai, and Tokyo at competitive prices.
Why It's Important?
The resumption of Etihad Airways' flights to Israel and onward connections to the U.S. is significant as it fills a gap left by major U.S. airlines, which are absent from the Israeli market until at least September. This move enhances travel options for passengers in Israel, providing them with more choices for international travel. The introduction of short connection times and preclearance services could streamline travel experiences, potentially attracting more passengers. Additionally, the expansion of flight operations by other airlines like TUS Airways and Blue Bird Airways at Ben Gurion Airport indicates a broader recovery and growth in the aviation sector in the region.
What's Next?
Etihad Airways plans to expand its flight operations further, increasing the frequency of flights from two to four daily starting May 2. This expansion is part of the airline's commitment to the Israeli market and aims to cater to the growing demand for international travel. Other airlines, such as TUS Airways and Blue Bird Airways, are also increasing their flight offerings, which could lead to increased competition and potentially lower fares for travelers. The ongoing developments in the aviation sector may prompt other airlines to resume or expand their operations in Israel, further enhancing connectivity and travel options.
