What's Happening?
The National Governors Association (NGA) has initiated a program to assist state leaders in developing comprehensive data dashboards that track student success from early childhood through workforce entry. This initiative, part of the 'Let’s Get Ready!'
road map introduced by Colorado Governor Jared Polis in 2024, involves a bipartisan group of seven states and territories, including American Samoa, Colorado, Delaware, Louisiana, Maryland, North Dakota, and Oregon. The project aims to shift state accountability systems away from a heavy reliance on standardized test scores. Over the next 18 months, governors will receive technical assistance to define, measure, and publicize indicators of student readiness. The NGA's framework emphasizes four pillars of readiness: academic foundations, workforce preparedness, civic engagement, and lifelong well-being. The initiative seeks to bridge data silos between K-12 education, higher education, and labor data to provide a more holistic view of student development.
