PT Golden Energy Mines Tbk (GEMS) has been recognized at the Asian Innovation Excellence Awards 2025 for its electrification initiative in the coal mining sector. The company has been replacing diesel-powered
systems with electric equipment at its main business unit, PT Borneo Indobara (BIB), since 2019. This transition has significantly reduced diesel consumption and CO2 emissions, while also achieving substantial cost savings. GEMS is collaborating with Indonesia’s state-owned utility PLN to secure additional electrical capacity, aiming to further decrease diesel use and emissions.
