What's Happening?
Casablanca Cruise Port has commenced its cruise season with the arrival of the Silver Muse from Silversea Cruises on January 6th. This marks the first cruise call under the management of Global Ports Holding
(GPH), the world's largest cruise port operator. The port is now equipped with a newly constructed, state-of-the-art terminal, developed through a €61.5 million investment, making it the largest cruise port in Morocco. The terminal can accommodate cruise vessels up to 350 meters in length and handle up to 450,000 passengers annually. The port's infrastructure includes a 666-meter quay and international-standard facilities, enhancing its capacity for efficient turnaround and transit operations.
Why It's Important?
The development of Casablanca Cruise Port under Global Ports Holding management is significant for Morocco's tourism and economic sectors. By positioning Casablanca as a major cruise hub, the port is expected to attract over 100 cruise calls and approximately 135,000 passengers in the 2026 season. This influx of tourists can boost local businesses and the hospitality industry, contributing to economic growth. Additionally, the port's strategic location on West Africa, Atlantic, and Mediterranean cruise routes enhances Morocco's appeal as a destination, potentially increasing its share in international cruise itineraries.
What's Next?
Looking ahead, Casablanca Cruise Port plans to further integrate with the city through a proposed rail connection project, which will improve accessibility and connectivity. The port aims to continue focusing on operational excellence and sustainable development, aligning with Morocco's national tourism and infrastructure goals. As part of the Global Ports Holding portfolio, the port will work towards creating long-term value for cruise lines, passengers, and local stakeholders, potentially leading to increased cruise traffic and economic benefits for the region.
