What's Happening?
The new Ohio Agriculture Center was inaugurated by Governor Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine, alongside agricultural leaders and Ohio FFA members, ahead of the 2026 Ohio State Fair. The nearly 177,000-square-foot facility replaces the former Ohio Building
and Agriculture & Horticulture Building. It features interactive exhibits, educational displays, and Ohio-grown products, aiming to celebrate the state's largest industry and inspire future agricultural leaders. The center showcases modern farming technologies, including drone technology and precision agriculture, and offers animal exhibits, cooking demonstrations, and the Taste of Ohio Café. The facility is part of a broader transformation of the state fairgrounds, supported by the Ohio General Assembly, which includes new buildings and infrastructure improvements.
Why It's Important?
The opening of the Ohio Agriculture Center is significant as it underscores the state's commitment to strengthening its agricultural industry, which is a major economic driver. By providing a platform for education and engagement, the center aims to attract young people to careers in agriculture, addressing potential future workforce shortages. The facility's year-round use for various events also highlights its role in community engagement and economic activity beyond the state fair. This initiative reflects a broader trend of investing in agricultural education and infrastructure to ensure the industry's sustainability and growth.
What's Next?
The Ohio Agriculture Center will serve as a year-round venue for youth programming, livestock and equine events, STEM competitions, and community activities. As the 2026 Ohio State Fair begins, the center is expected to draw significant attention, potentially influencing more young people to consider careers in agriculture. The ongoing transformation of the state fairgrounds, including new buildings and infrastructure, will continue to enhance the venue's appeal and functionality, supporting Ohio's agricultural and economic goals.
