What's Happening?
Jay Peak Resort is organizing two fundraising events aimed at supporting cancer research and promoting youth access to outdoor activities. The events, titled 'A Night For Nick' and the '16th annual Hope On The Slopes,' are scheduled for February 28 and March
1, respectively. 'A Night For Nick' will feature live music from the band Rigometrics and a silent auction, with proceeds benefiting the Reeno Foundation. This foundation was established in memory of Nick Ruschmeyer, a community member who passed away in 2020, and it provides scholarships for youth outdoor experiences and education. The 'Hope On The Slopes' event will unite skiers, riders, and volunteers to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. Activities include a bake sale, a rubber duck race, and a benefit auction, culminating in an awards ceremony and live music.
Why It's Important?
These events highlight the community's commitment to supporting cancer research and fostering youth engagement with the outdoors. By channeling funds to the American Cancer Society, the events contribute to ongoing cancer research efforts, which are crucial for developing new treatments and improving patient outcomes. Additionally, the Reeno Foundation's focus on youth scholarships underscores the importance of outdoor education and experiences in personal development. These initiatives not only honor the memory of a valued community member but also strengthen community bonds and promote health and wellness through outdoor activities.
What's Next?
Participants and supporters can look forward to engaging in various activities during the events, with opportunities to contribute to the cause through auctions and donations. The success of these fundraisers could inspire similar initiatives in other communities, potentially leading to increased support for cancer research and youth programs nationwide. Stakeholders, including local businesses and community leaders, may consider collaborating on future events to expand their impact.
