What's Happening?
The Shortsville Reindeer Farm recently organized a German-style volksmarsch, a non-competitive walking event, on October 5. Participants enjoyed a scenic walk around the reindeer pasture and through fields and forests. The event featured traditional German elements such as grilled bratwurst, Rebel Sailor Brewing Co.'s Reindeer P lager, Oktoberfest beer, and music by the Krazy Firemen band. The proceeds from this event were directed to the Red Jacket Community Library. Attendees also had the opportunity to see the farm's reindeer, including a young reindeer named Maija. Despite the warm weather, the event served as a prelude to the farm's holiday season activities.
Why It's Important?
This event highlights the community's engagement in cultural activities and its support for local institutions like the Red Jacket Community Library. By hosting a volksmarsch, the Shortsville Reindeer Farm not only provided a unique cultural experience but also contributed to the library's funding. Such events can strengthen community ties and promote local tourism, benefiting small businesses and cultural organizations. The involvement of local breweries and bands also underscores the importance of supporting local artisans and entertainers, which can have a positive economic impact on the region.
What's Next?
As the holiday season approaches, the Shortsville Reindeer Farm is expected to open its doors to more visitors, offering additional opportunities for community engagement and tourism. The success of the volksmarsch may encourage the farm to host similar events in the future, potentially expanding its cultural offerings and community contributions. The Red Jacket Community Library, benefiting from the event's proceeds, may use the funds to enhance its services and programs, further supporting the local community.
