What's Happening?
The Youth Renewal Fund (YRF) held its annual gala at the New York Historical Society, successfully raising nearly $1 million to support Israel's Darca school network. The event highlighted the significant impact of the Darca schools, which have dramatically
improved graduation rates in disadvantaged areas of Israel. The Maxim Levy Darca High School in Lod, for example, increased its graduation rate from 23% to 94%. The gala honored siblings Jacquie Greyserman Ptalis and Max Greyserman for their philanthropic contributions. The Darca schools, founded in 2010 with support from Israel's Education Ministry, serve over 30,000 students across 57 schools, focusing on providing academic and extracurricular opportunities to students from socio-economically challenged backgrounds.
Why It's Important?
The funds raised at the gala are crucial for sustaining and expanding the Darca school network, which plays a vital role in providing quality education to students in Israel's socio-economic periphery. By improving educational outcomes, the Darca schools help break the cycle of poverty and open pathways to higher education and better job prospects for students. This initiative not only benefits the students and their families but also contributes to the broader goal of social equity and cohesion in Israel. The support from U.S.-based organizations like YRF underscores the importance of international collaboration in addressing educational disparities.
What's Next?
Following the successful fundraising event, the Youth Renewal Fund is likely to continue its efforts to secure additional support for the Darca schools. The focus will be on expanding the reach of the network to more students and enhancing the quality of education provided. Stakeholders, including donors and educational leaders, may explore new partnerships and initiatives to further the mission of the Darca schools. The ongoing support from the U.S. and other international partners will be crucial in sustaining these efforts.
