What's Happening?
The Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) is actively working to enhance financial inclusion in Côte d'Ivoire, focusing on empowering women entrepreneurs. Despite women playing a significant role in the economy, they face challenges such as limited access
to land ownership and financial services. The AFI, in collaboration with local agencies, is implementing initiatives like the 'Women’s Fund' to provide microfinance and improve financial literacy among women. These efforts have led to a significant increase in women's financial inclusion from 37% in 2021 to 54% in 2024.
Why It's Important?
Financial inclusion is crucial for sustainable economic growth and reducing social inequalities. By empowering women financially, the AFI aims to enhance their ability to invest in health and education, thereby reducing poverty. The initiatives not only support women entrepreneurs but also contribute to the overall economic stability of Côte d'Ivoire. The success of these programs could serve as a model for other regions facing similar challenges.
What's Next?
The AFI plans to continue its efforts to close the financial inclusion gender gap, which currently stands at 54% for women compared to 61% for men. Future initiatives will focus on enhancing access to credit and developing gender-responsive financial products. The organization also aims to mobilize resources to provide specialized funding for women, ensuring they can secure loans tailored to their business needs.
